Sign-Up for VBS now!

Vacation Bible Study plans are progressing nicely, and the sign-up sheet is now available.  Click here to go to the sign-up page.  And here’s everything (well, most things) that you’ll need to know about VBS this June!

Summer is almost here, and that means it’s time for children and adults alike to come together at St. John’s to learn, play, and grow in faith in Vacation Bible School!

Here at St. John’s, we do Vacation Bible School a bit differently than most churches. Our schedule is different – we meet in the evenings, and we don’t do VBS all in one week. We also create our own program each year, exploring fun new themes that won’t be found anywhere else.

“The Image of God” VBS will be held on four consecutive Monday evenings in June (the 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. We’ll begin by sharing a meal together, and then we’ll have our large group gathering time, where we’ll learn about what it means to be made in the image of God, and how our relationship with God changes depending on the image of God that we hold in our heads.
The schedule for the weeks is as follows:
June 5th: God’s Creation.  We are all made in the image of God, yet we all look different!
June 12th: Icons or Idols.  We put a lot of ourselves into the things we make and do, yet nothing we make is God. How do we engage our likes, interests, and fandoms, yet still keep them in perspective?
June 19th: Symbols of the Church: Doves, fish, and crosses are all symbols that have been used by Christians for centuries.  What do they mean and how can they help us understand our faith?
June 26th: Resurrection Stories: Jesus appears differently to Mary Magdalene on Easter morning, to the disciples on the Road to Emmaus, and to the disciples on the Sea of Galilee.  Why is this, and what does it tell us about our encounters with God in our daily lives?

After large group time each evening, we’ll divide up into smaller groups (according to age) and experience different activities that connect to the evening’s theme through art, science, games, drama, crafts and more! Each session will end with a time of joyous singing and dancing and a closing prayer.

“The Image of God” is open to preschoolers through rising 5th graders, and youth (6th grade and up) are encouraged to volunteer. You do not have to be a member of St. John’s to attend VBS – all are welcome!

There is no fee for registration, but there is a suggested donation of $5 per night, to help cover the cost of food and supplies. Donation baskets will be available each evening at VBS.

Register your child(ren) below! If you have questions, please email Karl Stevens, Coordinator of Children’s & Youth Ministries (KarlS@StJohnsWorthington.org). All who register will receive an email with important details sometime during the last days of May.

See you in June at “The Image of God” VBS!
