Vacation Bible School
Children and adults alike come together every June at St. John’s to learn, play, and grow in faith in Vacation Bible School. Here at St. John’s, we do Vacation Bible School a bit differently than most churches. For starters, instead of the traditional Monday through Friday VBS format, our sessions meet on four consecutive Monday evenings in June (in 2017 that will be June 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th). This schedule lessens the pressure on kids, parents, and volunteers, and it also makes the fun of VBS last an entire month.
Another unique aspect of VBS at St. John’s is that we don’t use one of the “VBS in a box” programs. We create our own VBS program based on the current interests and resources of the church and community. Creating our own VBS program allows us to break new ground and explore different areas with the VBS kids. Our theme for 2017 is “The Image of God.” Kids and adults will learn about what it means to be made in the image of God, and how our relationship with God changes depending on the image of God that we hold in our heads.!
“Image of God” Vacation Bible School 2017 will be held on four consecutive Monday evenings in June from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. We’ll begin by sharing a meal together, and then we’ll have our large group gathering time, where we’ll learn about the theme for the evening. We’ll divide up into smaller groups, according to age, and experience different activities each night that connect to the evening’s theme through art, science, games, drama, crafts and more! Each session will end with a time of joyous singing and dancing and a closing prayer.
Children in preschool through rising 5th graders are welcome to attend VBS, and youth are encouraged to volunteer. There is no fee for registration, but there is a suggested donation of $5 per night, to help cover the cost of food and supplies.
