Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers

We are all called to be full and active participants in the worship of God.

Lector is the title given to a lay person who reads the assigned Scriptures for the day. The Ministry of the Lector is to proclaim the Word of God by reading from both the Old and New Testament at church services throughout the year. A Lector may also lead the Prayers of the People.

A Eucharistic Minister is a lay person who assists the priests and deacons in the distribution of the consecrated elements during the Holy Eucharist.  Eucharist Ministers are licensed by the bishop to serve.

At St. Johns, the lectors and Eucharistic ministers provide lay service and leadership during almost all of the services of worship, both on Sundays and on Festivals and Holy Days. Volunteers select dates and tasks and serve approximately once a month.

A brief training program is offered periodically, and can be offered in a one-on-one session for anyone who is interested in serving.

Anyone interested in participating in this ministry may contact Keith Redmill (redmill@ece.osu.edu or 614-263-1643) or Father Philip in the church office.
