The cornerstone of the music program at St. John’s is the Adult Choir, which sings for the 9:00 service on the first Sunday of each month (October through June) and at the 11:15 service on the other Sundays from Labor Day through Trinity Sunday. The Choir is a talented group of singers, primarily made up of parish volunteers and supplemented by two staff singers. Their repertoire ranges from Tallis to Mathias, and Mozart to Dirkson and Rutter. The choir also sings two services of Choral Evensong each year. The choir’s annual choral workshop has recently featured Jason Hiester (Ohio Wesleyan, Opera Columbus), and composer Mark Hayes. This year we welcome Ryan Keeling, the recently appointed Director of Choral Activities at West Liberty University in West Virginia.
The choir is open to anyone high school-aged or older, and no audition is required. If you can read music and would enjoy an hour and a half of singing, fellowship, and fun on Thursday evenings, please consider singing with the choir as part of your ministry at St. John’s. If you are interested, but unsure if singing in the choir is a commitment you want to take on, please consider our open invitation for an 8-week trial period. If you would like more information, please contact our Coordinator of Music, Sara Seidel.
