Formation Eucharist this Sunday!

This Sunday at 9:00 AM we will hold our second in a series of Formation Eucharists for All Ages.  Children will stay in the nave rather than going to Kilbourne Hall for Children’s Church.  Parents are encouraged to sit with their children and help them follow the order of service and sing the hymns.  Parents and children should fill out the prayer sheet that they receive at the beginning of the service, use it during the Prayers of the People, and take it home for their prayers throughout the week.  This week’s eucharist will focus on the Gospel – what they are, how they became part of the Bible, and why we make a big deal about them each and every week,  Join us!

Whirl Sunday School Program for pre-Kindergartners and Kindergartners!

Last week we launched our new pre-K and Kindergarten Sunday School Curriculum, Whirl by Sparknotes!  The class meets in the nursery from 10:25 – 11:00.  This week’s lesson uses the story of the Annunciation to help kids think about the risk and fun of trying something new!

1st – 5th Grade Sunday School: The Wise and Foolish Bridesmaids, Week Two!

The 1st – 5th Grade Sunday School will meet in the Undercroft from 10:25 – 11:00 (it’s also open to any kindergartners who feel ready for it) to continue our investigation of Jesus’s parable of the Wise and Foolish Bridesmaids.  How do we stay alert and make sure we’re ready for anything?  Well, last week we answered this question with some pyrotechnics.  This week we’ll be making lamp-themed stained glass windows.  And maybe also having some pyrotechnics, just for fun!

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper!

We’ll create large and beautiful Alleluia banners, and then in the best Lenten tradition, we’ll process them to the graveyard and bury them!  And while we’re there…

Bring Your Old Palm Branches to Shrove Tuesday!

If we get enough of them, we plan to burn them and use the ashes on Ash Wednesday.  This is a wonderful old tradition that links one year to the next and helps us remember that seasons of joy lead into seasons of sorrow, and then to seasons of joy again.

Ice Skating on February 18th

We’ll go ice skating on the evening of Sunday, February 18th at the Blue Jackets Winter Park in the Arena District.  We plan to skate from 4:30 – 5:30 PM, which is when the park is open.  We’ll leave from Saint John’s at 3:45 to get there in time, and we’ll plan to get back to the church by 6:30.  Please RSVP by Wednesday, February 14th if you plan to come, so that we can make sure we’ve got enough drivers and can purchase vouchers in advance.
