Adult Christian Education

NEWS!!  Read about our new Lent Series From Bondage to Liberation!

Christian formation is the lifelong process of growing in our relationship with God, ourselves, others, and with all creation. As followers of Christ, we are informed by Tradition, inspired by Scripture, reassured by Liturgy, and grounded in Reason.

In our lives and at St. John’s, we all strive for a deeper understanding of God.  We seek spiritual affirmation and enlightened transformation for ourselves, our parish and for the community at large.

Every experience in our lives can provide us with the opportunity to express and deepen our faith both as individuals and as part of a community of faith.  Adult formation activities and programs help us learn what is to be a Christian and how to live lives of personal faith, communal worship, shared mission, and social justice.  Children and Youth formation activities are described on these web pages.

The Adult Formation Committee’s mission statement is:

Adult Faith Formation at St. John’s is committed to spiritual transformation in the lives of individuals and the congregation.  It strives to provide community, education, resources, and outreach that empower the parish to grow in faith, deepen in theological and biblical reflection, and understand our lives as the priesthood of God’s faithful people in and to the world.

The committee meets monthly and is responsible for creating a systematic program of Christian education, service, fellowship, and engagement including opportunities to learn, grow, and inspire in our faith.  We believe that our pursuit of faith formation will gain strength through private study and in participation in workshops, lectures, retreats, bible study, book & film discussions, inter-generational engagement and more.

Currently, the Adult Formation Committee oversees a range of ministerial and programmatic activities including Sunday Adult Forums, Seeing the Light: A Faith and Life Seminar Series, Caregivers and Grief Support, Women’s Annual Retreat, Film and Book Programs, and the St. John’s Parish Library.  A new Speaker Series is under development and will be launched in January of 2018.

Christian Formation can also be accomplished through participation in one or more of the many ministries at St. John’s including Outreach and Social Justice, Worship and Liturgy, Adult Choir, Stewardship, Pastoral Care and more.  (Follow links for more information about these ministries.)
